HOSTELS IN BAJA, MEXICO...

Tijuana
As of this writing there are no hostels in downtown Tijuana. There are cheap hotels in 'Las Playas', the beach area of Tijuana that is nearly empty of tourists, and more 'authentic Mexico', with local family restaurants, cafes, bars and coffee houses on the beach or with an ocean view. Contact 'Run of the World' for more info on location and transportation.

Transport to Mexico
Here is info for bus transport from downtown San Diego to Tijuana, and from Tijuana to many cities in Baja and mainland Mexico.

*( this info changes all the time!... be sure to confirm it! )
Mexico Border You can take the 'Blue' trolley or bus #932 to the border, or for a more scenic tour, take #901 over the Coronado Bridge, along the beach, then transfer at the stop to the trolley or #932!
downtown Tijuana It's within walking distance after you cross the border, walk 100m, go right through the shopping plaza, then take the bridge over the canal. Look for the large silver arch at the start of downtown.
You can also catch a local bus for 6 1/2 pesos*(=60cents) from just past the border taxis and to the right. Listen & look for buses to 'centro'.
Tijuana bus station There are 3 bus stations in Tijuana. One way to the main station is to take the 'Greyhound' from downtown San Diego. Currently the price is around $12-. There are about 10 buses a day, & the trip takes about 1 hour. There is also a bus station just a 5 minute walk past the border to the right of the taxi stands, another just 2 blocks from the large silver arch on 'Revolucion Ave.'.
Tijuana airport A taxi from the border is about $10-20-, negotiate with the driver before you get in!
Rosarito From downtown Tijuana take a 'communal' taxi from 3rd & Madeira Street, (next to 'Revolucion')
for a couple dollars, or the bus station near the border, or the 'Mexicoach' from Revolucion Ave.
Ensenada From Tijuana- once you cross the border walk pass the taxis, go right and there is a bus station. Currenlty 'A,B,C' and 'Estrellas' buslines go to Ensenada for about 80pesos/$7+ dollars.
San Felipe From Tijuana take the bus to Mexicali, then down the Baja Gulf coast to San Felipe.
From San Diego take the bus to Calexico, cross the border to Mexicali, then the bus to San Felipe.
Mainland Buses from Tijuana go almost anywhere in Mexico. There are 3 bus stations in Tijuana, one near the border, one near downtown, and one near the airport that can take you all the way to Guadalajara.
